Freestyle Skiing Tricks to Try

Skiing ability is a necessity for Freestyle Skiing, for certain, but as it is a skiing form that focuses on stylish tricks more so than on the completion of a skiing run, it also requires both some skill in acrobatics and at least passing knowledge of aerial tricks that can be done on skis. The former is something that skiers have to practice themselves, but we can help with the latter by providing the following list of sample freestyle skiing tricks to try. Although we have chosen fairly simple ones for this compilation, it is a good idea to have them demonstrated by an experienced freestyle skier before you try them.  Also note that there are a lot more tricks out there than those that we bring up, so if these do not interest you, try looking for others on your own.

Backscratcher – The backscratcher is done by bending your knees to the point where the tails of your skis touch your back. This sounds deceptively easy, so beware. If, for example, you make the mistake of leaning your shoulders forward during the trick you are likely to land on your face.

Scissors – The scissors is done by putting one leg behind you and the other in front of you, so as to make one ski point upwards and the other one downwards. Just remember to put the skis back into their normal position before you land.

Rocket Air Grab – Grabs are tricks that involve reaching down and grabbing one or both of your skis in mid-air. This particular one is done by extending both your legs forward to put you into something akin to a sitting position before you try for the grab. Return your skis to their normal position before landing.

360 – The name of this trick pertains to spinning 360 degrees, which is also the objective of the trick. To do it, turn your upper body as you are launched into the air. Grab the tail end of your skis to pull them along and do not let them go until you spot your landing.

180 -The 180 might seem easier than the 360 for how it calls for half the rotation, but this fact is more than made up for by how you will end up landing backwards. For this reason this trick calls for twin-tip skis. That aside, you simply follow the instructions for the 360 and stop your spinning at an earlier point.
